The Edel Approach
Before the review take we should take some time to learn how the Edel fitting system works. From the company www.edelgolf.com
My approach to making your putter is simple: You shouldn’t have to adapt to a putter, because it should already be built around the way you play. You can buy a putter because it has a good reputation, or because someone on tour is winning millions with it, or because it’s beautiful—but none of those reasons make much sense compared to owning a putter that’s created specifically for you. That philosophy underlies every step of the process when I make an Edel putter.
Step 1: Assessment
The first step is to assess your aim. You aim at the target—a small laser projector (Photo 1). When the ball is removed, the laser beam reflects off a mirrored putter face (2). The reflected beam projects onto a wall, showing the difference between your aim and the actual target (3).

Step 2: Personalization
Once your aim is determined, the instructor uses the Edel Putter Fitting tool kit, a unique system of up to 30 million component combinations – different heads, hosels, offsets, lie angles and more – to find the combination that corrects for your natural aim.

Step 3: Creating the putter
Once the right combination is found, David Edel uses the information to hand-craft a beautiful custom putter that’s a perfect fit for you. He uses a combination of old-fashioned craftsmanship and modern technology to create a putter that feels right, looks great, and is customized with your name or other information.
Ok now my review
Frustrated with putting I started reading about different putters. I could not putt with any putter or any method of putting with any success for very long. I would switch putters and putt great for a while and then start three putting like crazy again. I actually once five putted in a tournament. In my search for putters I stumbled upon Edel golf; a somewhat small, but yet very influential company. Every thing I could find about the company and the man behind it (Dave Edel) sounded great. Luckily I live really close to Mr. Edel and his putter studio. I gave him a call and set up an appointment to get fit by him at his house.
I brought my 2-ball putter because that was the one I was three putting with at the time. He had me aim it at a cup and I thought that I was right on. When the laser was turned on I was blown away. From about twelve feet I was aiming over six feet left, and about four feet high. In disbelief I tried again, but with the same results as the first time. We kept going and I could not for the life of me aim that 2-ball putter.(the one I five putted with) Sold on getting rid of that thing we moved on to the next step. Getting fitted for the right putter. Normally someone who aims left needs little to no offset from what I under stand. But, I was different and he found that out with one change of the hosel. I was already seeing big improvements. We eventually got it narrowed down to the head and hosel I needed. From there we found that I aimed the putter best with one line on the top of the putter. This part amazmed more than any other. With a line on the top and bottom I aimed a couple feet right. With no line at all I aimed fairly close to the hole. With one like on top and two on the bottom I aimed to the left by a foot or so. Now we had my head, hosel, alignment aid, done. The only thing left was to get the weight, the length that I wanted and whether or not I wanted a gold, silver, or plain finish. I opted for the plain finish because I did not want to sell my car in order for me to get a gold putter.

Two weeks later I went over to his putter studio and picked up my putter (pictured above). I immediately drove to the golf course and played so I could see how it worked. I will say that the improvement I saw was awesome. Not that I was Ben Crenshaw or anything. But, I was aiming where I wanted to. That means that on a 30 foot putt that I am aiming at my target instead of 20 feet to the left. Short putts overall were also much easier to make. As weird as it sounds, it was actually weird aiming at the hole and it took me a while to get used to it. Not that I am complaining.
Conclusion
It has changed my putting game forever. I know it will do it for anyone who does it. The Edel system is awesome. The putter is expensive, but at the end of the day you have a 100% custom made putter, that is tailored to your eyes and the way the see the ball and that has your name milled into it. You will spend more, but you will never need another putter again. I promise you that. The only downside with my Edel is that when I am putting bad I have no excuse.
